WORKSHOPS: A limited number of pianists and percussionists will be chosen to participate in five days of masterclasses given each morning Monday through Friday, June 15 - 19, from 10am to 1pm in Williams Hall at New England Conservatory. Participants will be coached by pianists Stephen Drury and Paul Hanson, percussionists Scott Deal and Mathias Reumert, and members of the SICPP faculty and guests artists on a broad range of repertoire from the last 100 years. Selected pianists will be aaccepted into the Ensemble Program and assigned to chamber groups which will rehearse in the afternoons; those pianists not participating in the Ensemble Program will receive private lessons from members of the piano faculty. Auditors, who do not perform in the morning classes, are also welcome, and may arrange to schedule lessons during the week with the SICPP faculty at NEC Summer School’s standard rate. ENSEMBLE PROGRAM:
Instrumentalists other than pianists and percussionists are invited to
apply to the SICPP Ensemble Program. Twelve instrumentalists will
be selected to prepare and perform contemporary chamber music under the
direction of SICPP artistic director Stephen Drury; selected ensembles
will prepare works by composer-in-residence Jonathan Harvey and be
coached by the composer. A limited number of vocalists may
also be selected to participate in the Ensemble Program;
vocalists will work with a chamber group as well as work with special
guest faculty Pamela Wood. Music will be mailed out in late May; groups
formed from the pool of applicants will also include members of the
Callithumpian Consort who will direct and coach the ensemble as well as
perform in it. Ensembles will also perform works by invited
composers (see Call for Scores). All music will be performed at the
final Saturday marathon concert.

CONCERT SERIES: The Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice will present six evening concerts of modern music for piano. Members of the SICPP 2009 artist faculty Stephen Drury, Paul Hanson, Yukiko Takagi, Scott Deal, and Mathias Reumert will perform alongside special guest artists and the Callithumpian Consort, presenting music by Jonathan Harvey, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Jo Kondo, Alfred Schnittke and others. Selected students will be asked to perform on the final evening concert on Saturday June 20. All concerts are FREE! |

COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE:
Jonathan Harvey will be the BnG Foundation 2009 SICPP
Composer-in-Residence; his music will be presented as part of the
evening concert series. Harvey will coach participants on his own
works and meet with and discuss works submitted by participating
composers (see CALL FOR SCORES, below). Performers are encouraged
to take advantage of Jo Kondo's residency and prepare one of his works;
composers are invited to submit scores to the SICPP New Works Program.

CALL FOR SCORES: The
New England Conservatory Summer Institute for Contemporary Piano
Performance is seeking scores for both mixed ensembles and piano solo
to be performed during the June, 2009 course (June 13 - 20).
Scores can be of a range of difficulties. The selected works will
be performed by advanced students attending the course and discussed by
composer-in-residence Jonathan Harvey. Composers whose pieces are
selected are expected to attend the course for the composer's fee of
$575.
